art meaning

The system theory states: that a picture´s meaning is a referece surplus emerging from the differences of selected forms.

In the case of a painting, the eye might select two forms, one cool and one warm in tone (or light and dark, etc.); then observe that the difference of the two forms adds to our perception of depth.
